Apply for the 2022-2023 ISHA Board

The ISHA Board of Directors is looking for new volunteers to serve in 2022-2023. The board currently has openings for a convention chair and co-chair and newsletter editor. All roles are great ways to get involved with ISHA and work with your peers and colleagues from across the state. Please see the job descriptions for each role below, as well as instructions on how to apply. We hope to fill these roles by mid- December.

Convention Committee Chair Description

 

The ISHA Board of Directors is looking for volunteer members to serve as the 2022 convention chair and co-chair. Serving as an ISHA Convention chair is a great way to work with the board and ISHA committee members to help organize and plan all aspects of the convention, including the speakers and agenda, selection of the venue and meeting facilities, sponsorship and exhibitor management, and social events. The Board is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual who likes to collaborate with others and work with our industry partners to host an exceptional event annually for ISHA. During the convention, the committee chair is expected to help with on-site communications and work with the management firm to welcome attendees and vendors to the event.

 


 

Convention Committee

The convention committee is the top advisory group for convention decisions. It is comprised of:

 

  • Convention Committee Chair(s) & VP for CE – Responsible for content, overall vision and schedule
  • President/Vice President Elect – Advises on strategic partnerships
  • Treasurer – Advises on budget
  • Staff (Executive Director, Account Manager) – Responsible for logistics, including budget tracking, communication with venue, registration, marketing, and speaker travel coordination
  • VP for Schools, Audiology and Medical – Advise on speaker selection and content
  • VP for PR – Responsible for social media marketing and outreach, on-site volunteer coordination of classroom moderators, and ISHA activities (table, social events)
  • VP for GCU – Responsible for poster presentations and ISHA scholars
  • Secretary – Responsible for ISHA elections, annual meeting of the association and awards and honors program

 


 

Co-Chair and Co-Vice Chair Responsibilities

Chairs hold the following responsibilities. Vice-chairs observe and assist as needed, and become chairs the following year.

 

  • Attend monthly meetings (video calls)
  • Work with staff to identify and invite committee members
  • Work with committee members to identify speakers and collect speaker information
  • Lead/facilitate conference planning meetings
  • Support staff efforts on sponsorship solicitation, marketing, exhibit sales, and public relations (e.g. offer contacts, review, make a few key calls)
  • Review and finalize decisions by convention committee and VP for CE
  • Build the session schedule
  • Work closely with staff and committee members to ensure on-time delivery of content

 


Ideal Convention Chair Skills and Attributes

 

  • Sees the value of ISHA’s mission and has a vision for the convention
  • Has time to commit to this project, independent control over their schedule, and can be available to staff when critical decisions need to be made
  • Possesses strong organizing, meeting facilitation, and people skills
  • Has content knowledge (what’s strategic, compelling, “edgy”) and wide professional network

 


Time Commitment

 

  • Monthly one-hour video meetings and weekly touchbase meetings during the month before the conference
  • Some meetings will require follow-up work, an average of 3 hours/month
  • Two in-person meetings – spring and fall board meetings
  • Two days to review and make final decisions on content 


Newsletter Editor Chair Description

The ISHA Connection is the signature communication tool for ISHA to reach our membership. The ISHA board is seeking a volunteer newsletter editor to source and prepare content for the ISHA Connection. The ISHA Connection is a quarterly newsletter.



Newsletter Editor Responsibilities

 
1. Work closely with the ISHA Board and ISHF to ensure that work updates are submitted for inclusion in the newsletter.
2. Develop compelling and timely content that will drive membership engagement. 

3. Research and write short articles on relevant topics as needed.

4. Coordinate strategic partnership commitments for advertising or to meet convention vendor/exhibitor agreements.

5. Approve content for staff to complete layout and delivery of ISHA Connection. 

 


Ideal Newsletter Editor Skills and Attributes


1. Good interpersonal skills; friendly and enjoys interacting with people 
2. Basic research skills, especially online research 
3. Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written format
 
 

Time Commitment

All estimated time commitments are per quarter.

  • Two hours to develop content outline for ISHA Connections and communicate content deadlines to committee and board members. 
  • Two hours researching and writing of short articles on ISHA current topics.
  • Two hours of communicating with staff, providing layout recommendations, and approving the final version of the newsletter.
